Off Grid Expedition Rentals

About Us

Off Grid Expedition Rentals

Where wild adventure meets local expertise in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). We're not just another equipment hire service – we're your gateway to authentic Welsh wilderness experiences.

Born from a lifetime of mountain exploration and a deep connection to this ancient landscape, Off Grid Expedition Rentals, bridges the gap between your adventure dreams and the practical realities of mountain exploration.

From forgotten boots at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) to complete expedition packages, our service adapts to your needs with the same flexibility required to thrive in these ever-changing mountains.

Our Story

Our roots in Eryri run deep

What began as informal adventures guiding visiting friends and family through Eryri’s hidden treasures has evolved into something more intentional – a service that opens these mountains to everyone seeking their moment of wilderness magic.

Off Grid Expedition Rentals was created when we noticed how many visitors arrived underprepared for Welsh mountain conditions or burdened by equipment that didn’t match their needs. We saw office workers who longed to escape to the hills but lacked the gear. Writers seeking remote cabins for creative solitude. Photographers chasing that perfect mountain light but missing essential kit.

We realised our combination of local knowledge, technical expertise, and premium equipment collection could transform these “if only” moments into unforgettable adventures. So we built something different – a service that adapts to your story rather than forcing you into predetermined packages.

Meet the Team

TybaltGreenland

Tybalt Peake

Tybalt’s relationship with adventure began early. At 15, he became the youngest person to sail the treacherous Northwest Passage – a 3,000-mile journey through Arctic waters. This expedition marked the beginning of a life dedicated to wilderness exploration.

His path continued through the mountains of Chamonix, where he lived from age 15, and later to Revelstoke, Canada, where he immersed himself in backcountry skiing, climbing, and remote expeditions. His adventures have taken him across glaciers in Svalbard, through remote mountain ranges, and into the depths of wild Wales.

With experience shooting content for Red Bull and working as a social media editor and gear reviewer for outdoor publications, Tybalt brings an unparalleled knowledge of equipment to Off Grid Expedition Rentals. His technical understanding of gear comes not from product manuals but from testing equipment in the most challenging environments.

Hero Douglas

Our guided adventures are organised by Hero Douglas, a qualified Mountain Leader with a specialist rescue background. After three years with Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, Hero brings both technical expertise and a deep familiarity with the mountains of North Wales to every expedition.

With certifications in Rope Rescue alongside her Mountain Leader qualification, Hero specialises in arranging trips that take adventurers safely beyond their comfort zones – whether that’s a challenging summit scramble or a secluded wild swimming spot hidden in Eryri’s remote valleys.

Our Philosophy

We believe that everyone deserves their moment of mountain magic. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer looking for specialised equipment or a complete beginner taking your first steps into the wild, our approach remains the same – exceptional gear, deep local knowledge, and a service that adapts to you.

We’ve built our business around three core principles:

Equipment should never be a barrier to adventure

Our premium gear collection means you can access professional-grade equipment without the investment.

Local knowledge transforms good experiences into unforgettable ones

Our intimate understanding of Eryri's weather patterns, hidden gems, and potential challenges keeps you safe while revealing the magic of these mountains.

The best adventures aren't prescribed – they're personal

From train station pickups for spontaneous escapes to mobile cabins positioned by forgotten lakes, we adapt to your adventure vision rather than offering one-size-fits-all experiences.

Sustainability Commitment

In a world of constant consumption, our rental service offers a meaningful alternative

Rather than purchasing expensive equipment for occasional use, our customers access exactly what they need when they need it. We actively source high-quality second-hand equipment, giving new life to premium gear. Many items in our collection were rescued from storage after a single charity hike or purchased from adventurers upgrading perfectly functional equipment.

This approach not only reduces waste but allows our customers to test equipment before making significant investments. Want to know if those £400 mountaineering boots are worth the investment for your upcoming expedition? Rent them for a weekend in Eryri first, and save yourself the potential disappointment of an expensive mistake.

We’re proud to operate on Leave No Trace principles and educate our customers on minimising their impact on these fragile mountain environments that we love.
